The world of steel is one without boundaries – growing, changing and expanding every day. Tata Steel, the leader in the steel segment in India, has operations in 26 countries, commercial presence in over 50 countries and 80,000 employees across five continents. What sets the Tata Steel Group apart is not just the extent or sheer magnitude of its operations, it is the excellence, innovative approach and the overall conduct that makes it the leader.

FACTOIDS

  • Asia’s fi rst integrated private sector steel company
  • Presence in over 50 countries
  • Turnover of US$ 24.81bn in FY 2014
  • Tata Steel places equal emphasis on stakeholder value creation and corporate citizenship

BLAZE TO BRILLIANCE
Established in 1907 as Asia’s first integrated private sector steel company, Tata Steel Group is among the top 10 global steel companies with an annual crude steel capacity of nearly 30 million tonnes. It is now the world’s second most geographically diversified steel producer. The Group recorded a turnover of $24.81bn in FY 2014. Over the years, Tata Steel has enriched the glorious legacy left by its Founder J.N. Tata. Tata Steel founded India’s first industrial city, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, where it established India’s first integrated steel plant in 1907.
FAITH FACTOR
The Jamshedpur works currently comprises of a 9.7 MTPA crude steel production facility and a variety of finishing mills. Mines and collieries in India give the company a distinct advantage in raw material sourcing. Looking further into the future, the company plans to continue to increase its capacity significantly through both brownfield and greenfield developments. The first phase of the six million tonnes per annum greenfield project in Kalinganagar, with stage-wise commissioning, is expected to start by the end of Financial Year 2014-15. The company is focussed not only on the execution of the plant facilities but also on addressing the socio-economic needs of an industrial enterprise of this scale. The company has plans for two new greenfield steel projects in the states of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
ENGAGEMENT THAT ENTHRALS
Tata Steel places equal emphasis on stakeholder value creation and corporate citizenship. Underpinning this vision is a performance culture committed to aspiration targets, safety and social responsibility, continuous improvement, openness and transparency.
What binds together every member of the global Tata Steel family today is a shared corporate culture, shaped by value-based guiding principles and the lineage of some of the world’s most pioneering and respected entities – the Tata group itself, British Steel, Koninklijke Hoogovens and NatSteel.
INNOVEDGE
An innovation driven company, Tata Steel believes that self-reliance in technology is a pre-requisite for growth, especially in the context of globalisation and expanding operations. With great emphasis on making products and processes more efficient and sustainable, Tata steel’s Technology Roadmap identifies projects aimed at increasing raw materials security while effecting reductions in energy use and emissions.
BRAND EQUITY
Steeped in tradition for over 100 years, Tata Steel has created significant landmark events in the history of corporate India. From the discovery of iron ore mines to commissioning of the planned city of Tata Nagar (Jamshedpur), from being a pioneering employer in the country to becoming one of the world’s most geographically diversified steel producers, Tata Steel has been a leader in the real sense of the word.
