Oman Dental College (ODC) is the first and only dental college in the Sultanate of Oman. It was established in 2006-07 when it admitted its first batch of 47 students. The first batch completed the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme in the year 2012.

Its BDS programme aims to meet the academic and professional standards of the under-graduate dental programmes offered in UK and India. It is approved by the UK General Dental Council (GDC) as well as the Dental Council of India (DCI). The programme is offered in English language. The Predental foundation at ODC has employed qualified teachers to equip the students with skills to comprehend, speak and write the language. It dedicates up to 750 contact hours for the same.

The college endeavours to be true to Sultan Qaboos bin Said’s vision for higher education and health care in Oman. Its aim is to “provide quality dental education of the highest international standards and contribute towards the progress and development of national healthcare facilities through the training of skilled, competent, ethical and caring dental professionals.”

The state-of-the-art infrastructure at ODC includes multiple dental chairs, X-ray facilities, and laboratories, along with a Central Sterile Supply Department, an operating theatre and a research centre.

Its dental clinical teaching hospital provides outpatient dental facilities, thereby improving people’s access to quality dental healthcare at affordable rates.

The values of ODC are inscribed in its ethos. They are Opus, Discere, Credo (Work, Learn, and Believe). Each one has its own significance. While ‘work’ stands for providing tertiary education and competence training, ‘learn’ means creating an academic and clinical learning environment in which students excel. ‘Believe’ stands for developing and qualifying students as dental surgeons who believe in continuing professional development throughout their practising lives.

The institute strives to emerge as the benchmark for dental education in West Asia.
