With 33,044 students and 2,358 faculty members on its campus, SRM is one of the leading private universities of India, offering programmes in engineering, management, medicine, health sciences, and humanities. It was accredited with ‘A’ grade by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council), an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission, a Government of India body, in 2013.

Founded by T. R. Pachamuthu, the university is spread over an area of 600 acres. The university has four schools of studies – engineering, medicine, management, and humanities. The faculty of engineering, apart from the regular engineering fields, also has a school of bio-engineering offering a wide array of courses in biotechnology, biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, genetic engineering, and food processing engineering.

SRM University functions out of three campuses – Kattankulathur, Ramapuram and the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi. The first two are located in Chennai in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The Kattankulathur campus houses the College of Engineering & Technology, College of Medicine & Health Sciences and College of Science & Humanities. The campus at Ramapuram houses the College of Engineering & Technology, Dental College, School of Management, and College of Science and Humanities.

Its National Capital Region (NCR) campus near Delhi is spread over an area of 25 acres.

It houses the faculties of engineering & technology, management and teacher education.

Admissions to various departments is based on performance in qualifying examinations and the entrance test (SRMEE) conducted by the university.

SRM has tie-ups with various organisations. Students are taken on field trips to gain practical insights. The placement and training cell guides students in planning their career and prepares them for interviews and group discussions. The placement cell endeavours to nurture healthy ties with the industry thereby helping students to get rewarding job offers.

The library stocks 179,212 books, comprising 63,577 titles, 950 handbooks & 125 encyclopaedias. It has a huge cache of periodicals, back volumes and project reports.

SRM’s Corporate Advisory Board (CAB) ensures that the engineering and management programmes are in tune with industry trends.

It provides a platform to students to interact with industry leaders. The university invites globally acclaimed scholars to provide an international perspective to its students. The university has signed memoranda of understanding with various leading foreign universities to bring an international edge to its curriculum.
