Ahlcon Public School has been at the forefront of change in the area of school education since 1998. Established by the Shanti Devi Progressive Education Society, the school was founded by Bikramjit Ahluwalia, who is also its current chairman. The school’s aim of providing liberal education to its students has stemmed from the vision of Dr R.K. Sharma, director & principal for the last 25 years.
Ahlcon admits students in nursery and first standard in conformity with the directive of the Government of Delhi. From class 2nd to 10th, the school offers admission on the basis of an admission test and for 11th and 12th, admission is based on the results obtained in the CBSE exams. The school has an optimum teacher-student ratio of 1:16. There are a total of 180 teachers who work towards imparting quality education.
The school has a long list of achievers in diverse fields ranging from academia to management and films to medicine. Recently, a student of the school, Prafull Sharma, of last year’s batch of class 12th, discovered 13 asteroids and a comet – SOHO 2333. After having received invitations from many universities, he finally joined Stanford University.
Every year, around 60-70 per cent of students get selected in professional colleges. The school also organises exchange programmes for its students to visit countries like France and the US.
To promote extra-curricular activities, the school has a number of clubs like Space, Eco, Heritage, Disaster Management etc. There is focus on literary and cultural activities including dramatics, music, and dance. Besides, the school conducts book reading sessions, quiz competitions, international student’s conferences and seminars.
Spread over an area of 3.54 acres, the school houses a number of facilities for its students. There are six science laboratories, digital classrooms, mathematical laboratory and other student-centric facilities that aim at improving the overall quality of education.
Strong emphasis is also given on developing not just the mental but also the physical ability of the students. The school has a badminton court with international specifications. It also has a basketball court. The school organizes various sporting events: throwball, rugby, handball, table tennis and athletics.
Other facilities include a meditation centre, meals preparation lab, a foreign language laboratory with audio & video facility, activity oriented learning centre and an open theatre etc.
The school is focussing on making the campus 100 per cent tech-friendly with international video conferencing facility. Teacher’s re-orientation in all disciplines is given paramount importance. As part of its efforts to provide global exposure to its students, Ahlcon is in the process of partnering with various universities and institutes abroad in diverse fields. It also invites delegates from various countries to hold awareness sessions for students.
