Founded in 2007, Avondale is a co-educational, international grammar school in Singapore offering education from the preschool level to year seven. The school admits students of all nationalities. It offers an international curriculum for its preschool and primary level.
Avondale’s curriculum is created by keeping in mind the needs of each and every child. It follows the Australian curriculum developed by ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority). It can accommodate students who hail from different educational backgrounds. The Australian curriculum is organised into eight key learning areas – English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Arts, Health and Physical Education, Languages and Technologies.
The preschool curriculum is tailored on the UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) model which focusses on developing a child’s reading, writing and mathematical skills. The Literacy Programme equips children with reading and writing skills from early on in their lives, thus giving them an edge over others.
The Numeracy Programme, through a set of fun-filled activities, aims to harness the mathematical potential of children. The primary curriculum is modelled on the lines of New South Wales and Australian National Curricula.
Under the Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), the academic programme is tailored keeping in mind the individual requirement of the students.
The school emphasises on developing a child’s proficiency in second language. The students are required to participate in the Foreign Language Programme which trains them in French and Mandarin.
The General Music Education Programme hones a student’s instrumental, compositional and research skills. Avondale celebrates Readathon and Book Week events to inculcate reading habits in students. The sporting facilities include an astroturf sports field used by primary students to play different games. It has two dedicated play areas for preschool kids.
