Since 1966, BDM International School (BDMIS) in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata has been focused on ‘imparting stress free education’ to its students. Initially started with just two students and one teacher, the institute today has grown manifold and has over 8,000 students enrolled and 400 teachers to take care of them.

BDMIS is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Apart from the regular curricula, the school also offers a professional competency course called the financial market management (FMM) course to its students in the 12th standard.

Around 49 of their students have reached a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) 10 mark and roughly 98 students have their CGPA scores lying between 9.1 and 9.9. BDMIS is a part of the Jagdish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) project where meritorious students are awarded scholarships.

The teachers are regularly trained to enhance their understanding and productivity. CBSE, on regular basis, conducts Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) workshops for the teachers. In addition to this the teachers, at present, are going through a training programme under European Pedagogical ICT training conducted by National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT).

The school has a lush green four-acre campus in Kolkata (India). In addition to basic infrastructure, the school has a total of 176 classrooms, three multimedia halls, three stages, four huge playgrounds, special laboratories for physics, biology, chemistry, FMM, biotechnology, geography and mathematics, several activity and sports rooms, dance and music room and a well-sourced library.

The school offers a plethora of co-curricular activities and encourages participation in various inter-school level competitions.

The school had recently organised a film making workshop called ‘digital dreams’. The film that was made by its students in this workshop was later screened at the 2nd Kolkata Children’s Film Festival.

Students from BMDIS also take part in various competitions involving creative writing. They regularly figure in the annual CBSE science exhibition too.
