The Gulf Medical University (GMU) in Ajman, United Arab Emirates, is an integral and unique component of the healthcare system of the country. GMU is a tertiary institution whose basic functions include medical education, research, patient care, and community service involving multiple areas at the national and regional levels.
The university is promoted by the Thumbay Group, under the able stewardship of Thumbay Moideen, the founder president, Board of Governors of the university. GMU has been recognised for providing programmes that had been introduced in the Gulf for the first time and is one of the few universities in the world which follows an Integrated Curriculum (system based teaching) in medicine.
Students are sent to recognised institutions and hospitals world over for a special 3 week training programme during the summer vacation. The campus comprises academic units operating alongside Center for Advanced Biomedical Research & Innovation (CABRI) to pursue excellence in biomedical research that shall have an impact on the education and the outcome of clinical care and Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare (CASH)- a multidisciplinary educational facility that provides high-tech simulated and virtually created hospital set-up for clinical and communication skills teaching and training for all health care professionals.
