Instant noodle products under the MAMA trademark have been well-known and accepted among consumers for more than 40 years now with over 50 per cent of market share. So much so that MAMA has become a byword for instant noodles in Thailand.

Thai President Foods Public Company Limited was established on February 15, 1972 with an initial registered capital of 6 million baht through a joint venture between President Enterprise Ltd. of Taiwan – providing manufacturing technology expertise and Saha Pattanaphibul Co. Ltd – responsible for marketing and distribution.

The founding objective was to produce instant noodles under the ‘MAMA’ brand. These hot and spicy noodles are delicious, authentic Thai in taste and are also very easy to prepare. A pack of dried noodles comes complete with sachets of oil and condiments that give the noodles the added spice and zing that Thai foodies crave. The noodles are well cooked in about three minutes by just pouring hot water, emptying the small sachets into a bowl and covering it.

Thai people also like to eat the noodles as a dry uncooked snack. High in quality ingredients such as wheat flour, palm oil, salt, sugar, red chilli powder, fish sauce, shrimp powder, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, dried leek, acidity regulators – sodium bicarbonate, potassium carbonate, thickener (cellulose gum), soy sauce etc. are combined in right proportions to make the best selling noodles. Instant noodles contain carbohydrates, proteins and fats along with vitamin A, iron and iodine to meet the nutritional needs. The cost of the noodles is also kept low in order to cater to a broader consumer base. A pack of Tom Yum MAMA costs about 6 or 7 baht and one can find at least one pack of instant noodle in every Thai house. The largest instant noodles producer in Thailand has received various certifications for food production safety for products sold in Europe and other parts of the world.

Production begins with selection of the wheat flour that is suitable for making good quality noodles. After which the flour is kneaded and flattened into sheets, cut into noodles, steamed, and doused with soup to make the taste aromatic. The instant noodles under MAMA trademark tried to create food innovation through research, together with effective management. In order to increase their production, the company took to advanced technologies and educated the staff members teaching them the skills and professionalism. The company’s first head offices were located on New Petchburi Road and their first factory was inaugurated at Nong Khaem District in Bangkok. The company has also produced instant noodle for leading firms in Europe, the United States and Australia.
