In conversation with Sunny Nandwani, Founder and Managing Director, Acuver Consulting

What makes a strong leader? What are your key leadership strengths are make the strongest attributes of success.

A strong leader is about having clear vision, clear communication as a innate quality, being open minded and a positive approach towards news ideas and challenges.

I believe my key strengths as a leader are empathy towards my team and clients and empowering the team to take informed decisions.

An accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career? What challenges did you face to reach to the success.

That, hands down, was my decision to start up. It takes a bit of courage and madness to move from a comfortable job to starting up. Building a successful business and taking ownership of my fellow team members was definitely a tough call for me.   Looking back at our journey with its highs and lows I can proudly say, we haven’t done bad for ourselves. Of course, I can’t take the credit of it all. I have a whole team that has walked this journey with me. But I’m glad that I made that shift. Acuver Consulting has grown from scratch, and expanding as a bootstrapped venture.

Challenges have been many. The first being able to make that decision to start my entrepreneur journey. Transition from a career peak with excellent track record to starting something was a major mental block. Getting the first employee, the first client was one of our biggest hurdles especially when we started with a fortune 100 company. Covid era posted newer challenges again just when we thought things are going good for us. Challenges haven’t stopped and neither has my enthusiasm to tackle them. Challenges make us worth something so I’m all for them.

What is a role of leader in these challenging times. List 5 in order of priority.

For me, leadership is not a skill but a value that is deep rooted.  My personal best includes:

  1. Resilience and strength
  2. Ability to stay calm
  3. Ability to decouple immediate emotions\ reactions
  4. Attention to detail and communication skills
  5. Consultative and collaborative approach with stakeholders

What is your vision and how do you share that with your shareholders, employees and others?

I’m particular about creating compelling customer experiences. inclusive growth is equally important to me. My goal is to create a sustainable and reliable business that delivers the most accurate and veracious solutions, with my team. Over the years, we have joined hands with like-minded people in various capacities who identify with our value system and our goals. My stakeholders are right up there in the ladder. I keep a very simple and open channel which involves communication and feedback.

How do you drive active business renovations and how does that impact your subordinates?

We share a common goal and that makes it easy when the time comes for renovations.

I encourage and challenge subordinates to be aware of changes happening around their core functional\ business areas and see what changes we can bring in to improve self as self and organization. I believe in incremental improvisation. Of course, having the trust of my team helps. Business renovations are critical tasks and require a leader to stay focused and connected with the team.

How do you integrate corporate philanthropy or corporate social responsibility as a part of your business strategies?

Based on our core value of ‘Sharing is Caring,’ we established the Acuver Foundation in 2021, an Indian non-profit organization with the goal of bettering society’s future. The kindness and empathy we’ve received from society have inspired us to give back. The overarching objective of everything we do at Acuver Foundation is to support the well-being of society by focusing on Education, Food & Shelter, and Environment.

What has been your driving force or philosophy in life?

Focus on the good. It helps me connect my vision, my words and my actions. Finding something that assists you when you are stuck, demotivated, directionless or just tired could come to you when you have found your values. I found mine that way, with time and through experiences.

How do you plan to drive your business at a global level?

We believe in consistent growth with clear focus on our vision and the path chosen.
Our global journey started a few years ago. We’ve made a good impact in international markets such as APAC region, UK and in the US. Our growth and expansion story is rooted in depth and length. The focus is to keep solving customers’ problems. We are strengthening our existing presence while entering new geographies.

There’s no success without our team. So, it’s important for me to make sure that my current team has growth opportunities and also to keep looking for new people who share our mindset. Like I said, I’m a big believer in building strong roots.

Our Award-winning solution continues to draw attention of customers globally. We belief there is more than one way to tackle any problem.  Hence, our focus is on creating tailor-made, holistic, strategic and innovative solutions across industry verticals such as Order Management Services, Warehouse Management Services with new-age technology that address the underlying causes of the technical and systemic issues in a company and achieve its goals. At Acuver, we thrive when we have a happy and loyal customer.

How do you define success and how do you measure up to your own definition?

Realistically, doesn’t the definition of success keep evolving? At one time success was about landing a secure, well-paid job. Then it was about starting up. Today, it’s about creating opportunities consistent growth. Who knows what it’ll be 5 years from now (smile!).

In a certain way, I admire the strength to keep trying. When someone gives a 100% and pushes boundaries, I believe that person is a success. Remember Nana korobi, ya oki (Fall down seven times, stand up eight)?

In your opinion what is the most significant aspect of leadership?

Again, its relative. Like I said, leadership isn’t a time, situation, topic bound trait. It’s a cumulative skill. If you see things and people moving in the right direction with your help, you’re doing it right. That being said, I sure like resilience.

Your perception of an empowered society. How far your industry has/can contribute for the same?

An empowered society is characterized by people who possess the knowledge, means, and opportunities to make well-informed choices, follow their dreams, and actively engage in shaping their lives and communities. This type of society champions fairness, inclusiveness, and personal control, enabling people to realize their maximum potential across economic, social, political, and personal facets.

By contributing to economic growth, access to resources, openness, innovation, sustainability, and more, the IT industry holds the potential to positively influence the society. Thus, fostering a sense of empowerment and self-determination.

Esprit de corps: How do you bring fairness and equality to all?

Fairness and equality create a healthy and productive workplace. We are mindful about that, at Acuver. All of us are treated with respect, have equal opportunities, and are evaluated based on skills, abilities, and performance rather than any personal characteristics. Our fundamental conviction in embracing Diversity and Equal Employment Opportunity, promoting a Flat Hierarchy, and fostering an Open Work Culture, where every team member’s ideas receive proper recognition, is what led us to being certified as a Great Place to Work.
