With an academic framework that is built around ‘competency-based education’, ‘experiential learning’ and ‘career transition support’, Lithan Education has been helping develop better multidisciplinary professionals for the past 17 years.
They’ve adopted a cooperative education framework which is an amalgamation of practical training, classroom learning and industry internships. The Singapore institute offers certificate programmes from SAP, Computing Technology Industry Association, Microsoft, Information Technology Infrastructure Library, CISCO and Project Management Institute. It also offers professional diplomas in enterprise resource planning (ERP), technopreneurship, system management, business management and technology sales & marketing.
The admission process at the institute gives preference to working professionals. Hence, in addition to drawing conclusions on the basis of academic scores, there is also a one-on-one discussion where candidates are assessed on the basis of their background, knowledge and aspirations. These interviewers or ‘education consultants’ use an internal profiling method to determine the compatibility of the candidates with their chosen fields.
The group’s alumni network includes over 16,000 people with over 45 faculty members across all its centres. The average age of the students is between 30 and 35 years and thus all the extra-curricular activities mainly revolve around themes like career, learning and industry.
Initially known as Genovate Solutions, the institute began by providing SAP certification programmes and consulting services. In the year 2002, after acquiring Lithan Hall Academy (then known as Knowledge Window Asia Pacific), the institute included the academic programmes in ERP and entrepreneurship. It was in 2008 that multiple centres in India, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand were opened. A joint venture company was also started in Sri Lanka.
In 2009, after being acquired by Leslie Loh, a private equity investor and the institute’s current chairman, Lithan Education saw major changes. New programmes for the SAP ERP and system management professionals were formulated.
Soon cooperative education programmes were built, funded by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) andEmployment and Employability Institute (e2i).
Lithan Education has a four-year Edutrust certification and its Common Entrance Test (CET) centre is recognised by Singapore WDA.
