mobilyEstablished in 2004 by a consortium led by UAE-based telecom conglomerate Etisalat, Mobily is the official brand name of Etihad Etisalat. It was only the second mobile service provider in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It provides its customers with roaming services on all continents where there is a GSM operator through 420 interconnections agreements, as well as allowing customers to call anyone on the face of the planet.

Mobily is the first Saudi communications company to get an operation licence for third generation services and beyond. In December 2004, Mobily was listed on Tadawul Stock Exchange. Mobily claims to have more than 40 per cent market share of the mobile subscriptions in Saudi Arabia.
In March 2008, Mobily was granted approval by Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) to acquire Bayanat al-Oula, which was a licensed data service provider, for a price of SAR 1.5 billion. In November 2008, Mobily acquired absolute majority stakes in Zajil, the leading Saudi Internet service provider (ISP).

Mobily owns vast majority shares in the Saudi National Fibre Network (SNFN), built with 12,800 km of structured fibre cable, panned into seven fully protected rings covering 35 Saudi cities besides access to 60 major hub sites for telecommunications prime points of presence. This is complimented with 20 inter-metropolis fibre loops in major Saudi cities. Mobily is also a lead investor in prime global submarine cable projects that are expected to be operational in the near future.

Mobily is among the few operators in the world that offer an unlimited mobile broadband data bundle. It was the first operator in Saudi Arabia to offer consumers BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) in 2007.
