S P Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) is one of the top business schools in India and Asia. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, a trust engaged in the promotion and development of academic systems and Indian cultural heritage, promotes the school.
Set in a vibrant 45 acre campus, in the heart of Mumbai, India’s most populous city, SPJIMR has set high standards in academic excellence, since its inception in 1981. The institute was inaugurated by the then British PM, Margaret Thatcher.
By the mid-90’s, SPJIMR had disaffiliated itself from the University of Bombay, with an objective to maintain its autonomy in course development, pedagogy and programme innovation. The move paid off, for it allowed the institute to orient the academics to its now famous “Learning by Doing” philosophy. It focusses on socially relevant segments and activities and accordingly imparts the requisite management education.
SPJIMR offers different programmes in management and entrepreneurship at the post-graduate level. Its two-year full time PGDM is ranked among the top 10 in India and attracts the high brows from every part of the subcontinent and beyond. It also offers programmes in Family Managed Businesses, Executive Management, Social Sector Management, Global Management Programme and Entrepreneurship. The SPJIMR PGDM and PGPM, approved by the AICTE, shortlist students based on CAT, XAT or GMAT scores, followed by two rounds of intensive interviews. The institute’s PGPM, PGDM, PGEMP and PGFMB programmes have been accredited by AMBA, one of the most coveted international accreditation bodies.
SPJIMR has been a success on the strength of its team of faculty members and research scholars. The institute engages over 65 full-time faculty members and around 85 visiting lecturers from the academia and industry, who bring into the classrooms years of real life experience. The institute became the only Asian institute invited by Aspen Institute, US to develop pedagogy for Teaching Improvement Program (TIP), integrating CSR in the Management curriculum.
SPJIMR provides a world of opportunities to its students to showcase their acumen in various business events and symposiums. This is reflected in the awards its students have won. SPJIMR teams won at the Tata Business Leadership Awards and the L’Oreal Brandstorm World Championship. As an institute, it has won several awards at the Indian Management Conclave in 2013.
SPJIMR has always kept industry integration of its courseware in the forefront. It has created different unique academia-industry interactions on campus for its students to absorb practical knowledge from the experts. For the last five years, SPJIMR has been holding Academic Conclave that brings together industry experts, CEOs and academicians for exchange of ideas, practices and experiences on major themes of interest.
