Mahashian Di Hatti (the respected man’s shop) or popularly known among its loyal Indian consumers as MDH, is a leading manufacturer, distributor and exporter of ground spices and spice mixture in India. The company was founded way back in 1919 by Mahashay Chunni Lal as a small shop.

Carrying forward its tagline, ‘Asli masale sach sach’, MDH today has set up five stateof- the-art plants across India and makes a range of over 62 products available in different packages. The company claims to procure raw materials directly from the centres of produce in order to maintain uniform taste and quality. Apart from ground and blended spices, MDH has a product portfolio that extends to saffron, tooth-powder, asafoetida, incense sticks, and havan samagri. MDH started its production by manually grinding spices but soon switched over to automatic machines to meet the fast growing demand for its products. Spices worth millions of rupees are today manufactured and packed using modern machines and sold throughout India and abroad through a network of over 1000 stockists and over 400,000 retail dealers.

Further expanding its reach, MDH has established fully automatic manufacturing plants at Delhi, Gurgaon (Haryana) and three manufacturing plants of spices, papad and an export unit at Nagaur (Rajasthan).

MDH spices and blends are popular not just in India but also in several other countries and the products are being exported to the United States of America, Canada, United Kingdom, Europe, South East Asia, Japan, UAE and Saudi Arabia. The company has its office in London (UK) and a fully equipped manufacturing unit at Sharjah (UAE).

In its 93 years of outstanding journey, MDH has achieved several milestones. Mahashay Dharampal, the owner and founder of MDH, has been awarded with ‘Arch of Europe’ award for excellence in quality along with ITID Quality Excellence Award and Dadabhai Naoroji Award.

The ‘real spice of India’, as the brand has always asserted itself to be, is Rs 5 billion business empire today. Apart from manufacturing spices and other household products, MDH has also made a name for itself in education and medical business by patronising several schools, hospitals, trusts and research foundations across rural as well as urban India.
