Sharda University is a venture of the Sharda Group of Institutions, a pioneer in the field of education in India since 1995. With 25,000 students and more than 1,200 faculty members in its campus at Greater Noida in the National Capital Region of Delhi, Sharda University is one of the largest educational groups in the country.
The university offers a broad range of courses across different categories. Aside from regular courses in the areas of engineering, medicine, law and management, the university also offers a course in Yoga. Admission to these courses is based on the scores obtained by students in various centre/state level entrance exams like CAT, MAT, UPCMET, GMAT etc.
The university also holds its own entrance test called the “SURE Test” which is followed by group discussions and one-on-one interviews. This helps the university to assess the personality of the students who wish to be a part of Sharda. Sharda provides counselling to prospective students to choose the right courses.
The university has IT-enabled classrooms fitted with LCD projectors and sound systems. The entire campus of the university is LAN-enabled and has a Learning Management System which facilitates discussion on academic topics, submission of assignments online, and helps students to access the digital library. The student hostels are also Wi-Fi enabled.
Sharda has a mix of qualified academia from India and abroad. Around 60 per cent of the faculty members are doctoral degree holders or alumni of Indian Institute(s) of Technology (IITs), Indian Institute(s) of Management (IIMs) and foreign universities.
Spread over an area of 63 acres, the campus hosts six amphitheatres, a cricket field, basketball and badminton courts and a football ground. The university’s library has a collection of over 1,00,000 books and subscribes to over 100 journals, magazines and newspapers. In the non-book section, the library has a collection of 10,000 CDs.
Encouraging students to participate in extra-curricular activities, various cultural events are held. The varsity also celebrates its yearly festival, Chorus, every year in the month of March. There is a music and dance club along with a drama society and a photography club for students to explore and hone their skills.
The exchange programme with more than forty universities makes sure that the students have adequate global exposure and are not limited to what is being taught at the university. The university has also signed memoranda of understanding with a number of international universities.
Even as the higher education space is getting saturated with educational institutes and universities springing up in every nook and corner, Sharda has not only maintained its presence but has also surged ahead by becoming one of the fastest growing private institutes.
