In conversation with Dr. Vikram Mehta, Managing Director, Spartan Engineering
Years of working in the industry, your contribution reflects versatility and volubility. What has influenced your decision making process at various stages?
To be current and relevant has always been my success mantra at every stage. Innovation has been the strongest pillar to build this empire. Innovating new and beneficial to the customers has made the difference which matters. Providing solution for every pain area of the customer has been my mission.
A project or an accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career?
Spartan has been instrumental in introducing one of the most advanced safe & innovative hoists like Multi-functional material hoists to India, making Spartan a renowned brand in India for Hoists.
He has succeeded in placing Spartan at the top of Construction Equipment Manufacturing Industry. This equipment has multiple functions of vertically carrying passengers, material and rebar at construction sites. This comes at a economical rate as compared to Tower Cranes and this machine carries the same function as Tower Crane. Hence in a single machine you can carry out 3 functions at the most minimum cost.
What has been your driving force or philosophy in life?
I am spiritual in many ways. I believe in knowledge sharing and always gives back to the society, which has been at the core.
What are the other philanthropic works you are involved in?
One of the values of Spartan is to give back to the society. Every year and also within the year, Spartan carries out drives to help the needy and deserving citizens of India through blood donation, donation of books, clothes and footwear. Spartan has also planted trees in the manufacturing premises and the town where the factory is located.
Spartan carries out these social drives across India, and every branch contributes to the development and upbringing of the areas they work and live in.
As a part of CSR, Spartan has conducted 2 months internship for girls from neighbouring Shahapur College for their ITI Electrical Internship. As a part of giving back to the society, Spartan has planted numerous trees within the factory and the premises. Spartan has also done a charity by donating computers to children in the village near the factory, thus empowering the Future of India.
How do you define success and how do you measure up to your own definition?
Being in a business of providing solutions to the customers pain area, the measure of my success has been the customer’s success. If by using Spartan Construction Equipment, if the customer can complete the project in time, with less cost and by providing ultimate safety to the operator and their people, Spartan’s success lies there.
We are constantly making things better, faster, smarter or less expensive. In other words, we strive to do more with less. Tell me about a recent project or solution to a problem that you have made better, faster, smarter or less expensive?
Recently Spartan has ventured into Fire Safety Lifts. You must have read in various news, about innumerable fire accidents happening at various residences and corporate offices. To provide the residents safety, Spartan has manufactured fire lift, which can help rescue the residents from fire by travelling through this fire lifts faster & safer. There are numerous safety features to this lift and is being accepted by various renowned builders and contractors for their prestigious high rise buildings.
In your opinion what is the most significant aspect of leadership?
Perseverance, focus and consistency is the most significant aspect of leadership. With hard-work and sincerity if you envision where you want to reach, the journey becomes achievable through these aspects. I am also proud to be leading a great team of professionals who have been in this journey for many years with a single belief to lead Indian and international markets.
Your perception of an empowered society. How far your industry has / can contribute for the same?
A spiritually inclined society is an empowered society. Giving back to the society is an act of nobility where you grow along with others and others too grow along with you.
One thing you wish to change and one thing you wish to retain about your industry?
Change: Industry should focus on human safety at construction sites. Safety must be taken into account even if it costs a bit more.
