Formerly known as Qatar Telecom (Qtel), the company adopted the new brand name of “Ooredoo” in March 2013. The company has been around since 1949 when the first telephone exchange was installed in Qatar. During the 2014 ITU World Telecom Conference in Doha, Ooredoo in partnership with Nokia Network and China Mobile showcased a record-breaking speed of 4.1 Gbps over LTE. In April 2014, Ooredoo opened its ‘Advanced Smart Innovative Solutions’ (OASIS) lab at HQ1, providing a space where smart ICT solutions are created, tested and demonstrated for staff and customers. It also launched the latest Ooredoo App. updates with new features such as the ‘Commercial SMS Blocker’, ‘International Key’ switch and continuous log-in ability.
The Ooredoo Data centre received the prestigious ISO 22301 certification – Business Continuity Management Systems (BCMS) certificate at QITCOM. Ooredoo Qatar won three awards at the prestigious CMO Asia Awards.
