Eminent parliamentarian and philanthropist late Dharmsinh Desai started a small engineering Institute in 1968 and the Dharmsinh Desai Foundation nurtured the institute. This resulted in gradual evolution of the institute into a university of international reputation.
The Dharmsinh Desai Institute of Technology (DDIT) became the first Autonomous Institute of this region then, first Deemed University of the region and then for its quality education, the first State University of Gujarat. This university has under-graduate, post-graduate and Ph.D courses in engineering, pharmacy, dental science, management, commerce and social sciences.
Its Anchor Center provides expertise to all the major chemical & petroleum industries of the region. The university R&D centre is assisting other agencies on India’s Mars Mission, and other forays into space research. The University has research and academic alliances with leading academic institutes of USA, UK, and Germany.
The strength of the Dharmsinh Desai University lies in its its pre-planned complete course academic calender (for 2/3/4 years) which is handed over to students and parents on the day of admission which includes the convocation day and date of the student. There are 508 permanent teachers and more than 300 visiting faculty members for 26 various academic departments of the university. All admissions are granted on the basis of merit.
